Meet The Artist: Darby Mackie
I’ve been immersed in the world of art my entire life, from childhood sketchbooks to formal studies in art history, and years of exploring painting as both a craft and as a way of understanding and communicating with the world around me. Today, my work brings together classic techniques with a contemporary spirit. I use acrylic gouache and watercolor to create rich, layered designs full of symbolism, warmth, and heart.
Each ketubah begins with hand-drawn sketches and color washes. I pull inspiration from nature, Jewish ritual objects, and visual traditions that feel both timeless and alive. My process is slow and intentional, drawing close attention to color, composition, and the little details that make each piece personal. I love the quiet rhythm of painting, it’s where I feel most like myself, and where I get to make something honest, individual, and enduring.
